The System focuses on the internal systems an organization has in place to respond to its various stakeholders. It looks at how an INGO takes responsibility for it’s:

Stakeholder’s rights and needs
organizational mission and values;
decisions and actions;
change management and improvement;
cooperation and coordination
analysis and reports on performance; and
internal self-regulation.
 

The Recognition System encourages learning from ‘beneficiary-first’ INGO practice in the 4 areas of Recognition so that an organization can be inherently trusted to generate the positive results they set out to accomplish in an effective and efficient manner..

This trust can provide a foundation for:

improved beneficiary-INGO relationships and understanding
new concepts of local empowerment and enforcement
longer-term funding that will enable INGOs to concentrate more effectively on long-term goals and impacts
a change in the belief that a good INGO has the cheapest overhead.
internal efficiency and effectiveness checks rather than watchdog auditing.
 
This trust is not everlasting. A good INGO will need to continuously prove itself and improve itself. However, the long-term benefits in terms of stakeholder relationships, improved operations and impact will be worth the effort.
